In continuation of our new blog series, Feature Friday, which shines the spotlight on some of the best and brightest in the wedding and events industry of St. Louis, we have yet another incredibly unique venue to share with you today! There so many incredible places in St. Louis to host and event, and we feel the need to spread the word about these wonderful establishments. Today we’re featuring a versatile venue, great for everything from weddings to corporate functions to bar/bat mitzvahs, Third Degree Glass Factory!
Third Degree Glass Factory was established in 2002, as the only publicly accessible glass art studio & education center in St. Louis. The dilapidated 1930’s car dealership and service station was renovated and transformed into a state-of-the-art glass facility with over 8,000 sq. ft. of usable space. Third Degree Glass Factory is a one-of-a-kind event facility, that not only hosts classes throughout the week, but serves as a beautiful and unique backdrop to any event. The galleries and studios have been carefully restored and transformed into urban art galleries. The 6000+ square feet of open space can accommodate up to roughly 250 guests for a seated dinner or up to 500+ for a cocktail-style party.
We enjoy catering at the venue, as there is no other space in St. Louis like it! Check out this interview with Rachel McCalla, Events Director, who shares more about the glass factory turned gallery, studio, and private event space, as well as tips for choosing the perfect wedding venue. This spot is truly one to investigate when planning your next event!
What makes an event at Third Degree Glass Factory unique?
Third Degree offers a take on the traditional sand ceremony – called a Glass Ceremony. We provide a couple glass crystals (the couple picks the color) that they then mix during their ceremony. A Third Degree artist will then take the mixed crystals and create a beautiful work of art, all LIVE. It’s just AMAZING. This is such a unique, life-long option that only Third Degree offers. Couples really love it! These works of art are just beautiful. You can also amaze and entertain your guests with a LIVE Glass Blowing Demonstration during the cocktail party!
There is a lot of information to keep straight during the wedding planning process. What should couples keep in mind as they search for a venue?
- Size. Invited guests vs. expected guests. We’re seeing a much higher RSVP “no” rate. Count on 25% (to 30% depending on the time of year) to RSVP “no.”
- Restrooms. Make sure there are enough and at least one is ADA compliant.
- Secure parking. Third Degree offers a parking lot attendant that takes a lap every 15 mins.
- Service fees. Make sure the venue lists ALL of their fees in the proposal.
- Rules. Make sure to ask the venue if they have any rules. Some only allow certain vendors; others don’t allow any candles at all. It’s always better to know up front before signing.
The venue is often the first place brides look when they start wedding planning. Any tips on how brides can avoid frustration during this process?
Figure out how many guests you EXPECT to come. Not how many you plan to invite. Close your eyes and envision what type of wedding you’d like/want, and THEN start your search. Why spend an entire Saturday looking at hotel ballrooms if you want a farm wedding?
Budget is HUGE. Try to figure out a budget before your search, so you know what to expect. Ask venues to submit an estimate before you set up a site visit. Why visit a venue, fall in love and then realize…. “Oh my gosh, I can not afford this.”
It is important the feel of the venue jives with the couple and their personalities. How would you describe the personality your space gives off?
Third Degree is an urban art gallery. We are located in the City of St. Louis close to the Central West End. We offer exposed brick walls and polished concrete floors. No funky carpeting or wall paneling here, offering an incredible versatile space and feel.
And then, there is the art. Lots and lots of beautiful, one-of-a-kind glass art: Hanging from the ceiling, on the walls, and displayed on pedestals. So colorful, so unique.
Third Degree also has three glass-working studios. It’s really awesome when a couple adds a live Glass Blowing Demonstration or Flame Working Demonstration… Or purchases their wedding party gifts here. It only makes the whole experience more special.
